1 Corinthians 5:7–8 (NKJV)

7 Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Exodus 12 – Passover

Passover was a celebration feast to remember the Hebrew people’s liberation from the bondage of Egypt.

Passover involved the sacrifice of a “perfect” lamb and the marking of the door frames of the Israelites’ homes with the lamb’s blood. They also prepared unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

Passover was eaten standing up, a symbol of their readiness to leave Egypt within seconds.

Parallels between Passover and Christ

Ex 12:1-2 Passover marked a new year, a new beginning, for the Israelites.

2 Corn. 5:7 In Christ Believers are a new creation, they have a new beginning.

Ex 12:5 A male lamb is inspected to ensure it is perfect before sacrifice.

Jesus was inspected by Pilate, Herod, Annas, and Caiaphas in the gospels, but they found no fault with Him because He was without blemish or spot as I Peter 1:19 states.

Ex 12:6 The entire community was required to participate in the sacrifice of the lamb.

Romans 3:21-26 In order to be a part of God’s family (His community) each person, all people, must accept Christ’s sacrifice.

Ex 12:7, 12, 22 By applying the blood of the lamb to the doorframe the Israelites were spared death when the plague came.

Romans 3:25, 5:9 Christ’s blood covers us in justification to save us from condemnation because as 1 John 1:29 states Christ is the Lamb that takes away the sins of the world.

Ex 12:14 The Passover was to be kept in remembrance of God’s deliverance.

Luke 22:19 We take and keep the Lord’s Supper in remembrance of Christ deliverance of us, His sacrifice for our eternal security.

Ex 12:46 God commanded that the bones of the lamb not be broken.

John 9:32-33 The soldiers wanted to break Jesus’ legs to hasten His death but it did not happen because Jesus was already dead.

Spiritual/Political Disclaimer:

This blog will not be for the faint of heart or the easily offended. It will not be in any way politically correct. It will make every effort to share the truth in love, [Ephesians 4:11-16], to a decaying and dying society and church. I share what I share not to hurt, harm, or offend any person[s] or group; I do it because Christ’s Standard and Truth is not being represented by enough of His Followers, and I do it out of love. I love enough to tell His Truth.

Ephesians 4:11-16 NKJV

11And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
