In this segment, we will look at the virtue of “joy” which is an aspect of the fruit of the Spirit. What we will examine is godly joy not a worldly happiness.

Galatians 5:22–23 (NKJV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness [KJV – gentleness], goodness, faithfulness [KJV – faith], 23 gentleness [KJV – Meekness], self-control [KJV – temperance].

The up, excitable, here one minute gone the next happiness that the world exhibits is not the virtue of joy, which comes from the manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit. Happiness is much to subject to ones circumstances to be godly joy. Happiness rarely sees beyond the temporal status of all things. Happiness is almost always based on the external and usually only on the internal as it relates to the external.

Joy is stable, steady, and inwardly resides like a stabilizing foundation of the Spirit Directed Believer. Circumstances rarely affect joy; a Believer can both grieve a loss and have joy at the same moment. Joy understands and is based in an eternal understanding of life and circumstances not a temporal worldview. Joy can be found in all circumstances because it is a manifestation of a virtue found within the fruit of the Spirit.

The definition in the Greek Language for the word “joy” used in Galatians 5:22 is as follows.

5479. χαρά chara, khar-ah´; from 5463; cheerfulness, i.e. calm delight:gladness, × greatly, (× be exceeding) joy (-ful, -fully, fulness, -ous).

Joy has the air of contentment to it as it manifest in cheerfulness that takes a calm delight in circumstances, the world around it, people, nature, creation, etc. Joy is filled with gladness, a gladness that embraces life and being alive, and a gladness that embraces life as it comes, not as one might wish it came. Joy is found deep within the Spirit of a Believer and though they may suffer distress and difficulty in life that joy continues deep within them.

Here are some examples of how godly joy might be expressed to God, others and self, as well as through service? Joy overflows into thanksgiving and thankfulness to God for His many blessings. Joy takes the time to engage people, even strangers, being polite and loving to them even when we might never see them again. Joy does not allow ourselves to walk about glum and in a state of discontent continually, with oneself and/or ones circumstances. Joy offers the sincere godly word of hope and cheer to someone when they are going through a tough time.

If you are a Believer and you find your countenance a bit downcast today you need to look deep within, locate your joy once again and ask Jesus to bring it back to the forefront of your existence.

Finding that balance between faith and what some mistake as works, which is often response to God not works, can be difficult. It is a subject that has been brought to me by people time and after time and quite a bit lately.

I will attempt to give you an extremely condensed explanation for a very spiritually deep subject. My objective always, is to take the spiritually rich things of God and communicate them in a simple way, nevertheless, in some cases that is difficult to do.

The basic question is, ‘Practically speaking, how does one allow God to work through or live through them?’

† You apply the work of the cross to your life.

† Everything God wants or desires you to accomplish or do was provided for by Christ’s death on the cross. The grace and power for anything we need to do was bought there.

† We invite and rely upon Christ to work through us in everything we do.

† If we “desire” to obey Christ that desire did not originate with us, it originated with Him and therefore we are able to response with willingness. Once we are willing, faith is born in us that this, whatever “this” might be, is what we need to do.

† Once the faith is born, that Jesus is prompting us to do a certain thing, change a certain behavior, etc. the grace and power to obey what God is requesting of us is present with us, available to us, should “we choose” to act on what Christ wants from us.

† When we make that choice to obey, we give our freewill over to His Divine Will, thus He pours out the grace, power, strength, etc. to empower us to act accordingly.

† That power remains with us as long as we continue to have faith in what God wants from us and we continue to rely on Christ, the finished work of the cross, and not ourselves to accomplish _______________________________ [fill in the blank] whatever it might be.

Our faith must remain in the Truth that He, Christ, has already accomplished for us what He is asking of us and therefore He will manifest that action in and through us.

Jesus said in Luke 21:19

‎‎KJV/AV – In your patience possess ye your souls.

NKJV – By your patience possess your souls.

As I have often reminded you, we must go back through the King James Bible to research and define the words used within Scripture.

That word “patience” in the Greek Language means the following:

Patience = 5281. ὑπομονή hupŏmŏnē, hoop-om-on-ay´; from 5278; cheerful (or hopeful) endurance, constancy:— enduring, patience, patient continuance (waiting).

To appreciate what is being said here we must go further and look at the entirety of what the words endurance and constancy mean.

“endurance” per Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary means:

1 : PERMANENCE, DURATION <the endurance of the play’s importance>
2 : the ability to withstand hardship or adversity; especially : the ability to sustain a prolonged stressful effort or activity <a marathon runner’s endurance>
3 : the act or an instance of enduring or suffering <endurance of many hardships>

“constancy” per Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary means:

1 a : steadfastness of mind under duress : FORTITUDE b : FIDELITY, LOYALTY
2 : a state of being constant or unchanging

For context, I wish to provide the entire portion of Scripture surrounding Jesus’ comment in Luke 21:19. The ability to possess ones soul effects our daily life – today, tomorrow, and in the last days just before Christ’s return.

Luke 21:8–19 (NKJV) – Jesus Speaking

Signs of Christ’s Coming

8 And He said: “Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Therefore do not go after them. 9 But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately.”

10 Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. 12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake. 13 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. 14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; 15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. 17 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. 18 But not a hair of your head shall be lost. 19 By your patience possess your souls.

In this segment, we will look at the virtue of “love” which is an aspect of the fruit of the Spirit. What we will examine is godly agape love not a worldly from of love.

Galatians 5:22–23 (NKJV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness [KJV – gentleness], goodness, faithfulness [KJV – faith], 23 gentleness [KJV – Meekness], self-control [KJV – temperance].

Let me start by making it clear that godly agape love is not the marshmallow, anything goes, I accept you and everything that you do, form of love that the world and apostate church is calling unconditional love. True unconditional love continues to love through the good times and bad but is not afraid of, nor does it shy away from, tough love when tough love is needed. Let’s takes a moment and look at tough love.

I have heard it said that some of the Old Testament Biblical Prophets were unloving toward the people. I say they love them enough to tell them the truth. People have said some of the Apostles were unloving in dealing with people in the early church. Such as in Acts 5 when a couple decided to lie to the Holy Spirit by lying to God’s Servants the Apostles, therefore, they were struck dead by God. In another case, when a disciple and apostle refused to take someone on a ministry journey, Acts 15, because they had proven to be unfaithful in the past, this has been deemed unloving by some individuals. However, I wonder if anyone would dare say that Jesus Himself did not exhibit the fruit and virtue of love? I can’t think of anyone with the nerve to do such, nor have I ever heard of anyone claiming Jesus was unloving. Yet, we find in the account recorded in three different gospels, Mark 11, Matthew 21, and Luke 19, of Jesus going into the temple and telling those religious people exactly how it was, correcting them, turning over their tables, destroying their property, keeping them from taking advantage of God’s people, and chasing them out. Nevertheless, though it might have looked unloving, un-peaceful, lacking in patience, kindness, gentleness, and self-control I assure you Jesus was never at anytime, nor was He in this situation, without love, peace, longsuffering, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control. That established then love must have an edge to it at times under certain circumstances.

The definition in the Greek Language for the word “love” used in Galatians 5:22 is as follows.

26. ἀγάπη agapē, ag-ah´-pay; from 25; love, i.e. affection or benevolence; spec. (plur.) a love-feast:— (feast of) charity ([-ably]), dear, love.

25. ἀγαπάω agapaō, ag-ap-ah´-o; perh. from ἄγαν agan (much) [or comp. 5689]; to love (in a social or moral sense):— (be-) love (-ed). comp. 5368.

Affection is something expressed, something acted upon, it is not a virtual reality. It involves feeling and emotion usually motived by tenderness toward someone. Real affections involves a solid regard for and dedication to someone. Affection is the expression of love. Oddly enough, “affection” is actually a disease and malady when inappropriately applied.

Benevolence is the doer of love. This is where our love becomes action in our acts of kindness toward another, our gifts we give them – both tangle and intangible, our hand extended in friendship – true friendship not just social interaction, the showing of interest and concern, as well as the giving of support and charity when needed toward another person. With benevolence, we put deeds and action to our claims of love.

Charitable love meets the need of the one loved. When we act in charity, which is an aspect and form of godly love, we are willing to meet the need of another person, whatever that need might be, if we have the ability. This is also, where we act graciously toward other people being tolerant of their weaknesses but not tolerant of sin, there is a difference. We show mercy when it is needed, never forgetting our own humanness. We are generous with whatever we have to offer other people, e.g. compassion, food, money, time, talents, gifts, clothing, a listening ear, companionship, something you have two of that they might need, etc.

Godly agape love is love that will love another person not only in the social sense but also in the moral sense. Moral love is willing to risk the anger and rejection of another in order to save the person from some form of harm or distress. Moral love speaks the Truth and points out right from wrong according to God’s Holy Principles. Moral love is not afraid to speak but allows love to overcome all fear and act in the person’s best interest. Moral love has a Standard and holds to that standard out of love. Moral love passes on God’s Principles through teaching them to others. Moral love is about exhibiting a noble, ethical love, which serves a higher purpose than simple reciprocation.

Here are some examples of how we might express godly agape love to God, self, and others as well as through service? We can express our love for God by spending time with Him in prayer, communication, fellowship, and Bible study. We can express our love to God through obedience – one of the greatest ways we will ever be able to express our love to Him. Expressing our love to ourselves might be found in being honest with ourselves and being all we know God wants us to be. We love ourselves when we take care of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual selves. Once we have learned to love God and self appropriately then we have something to offer other people. At this point, we might love others through providing for a need they might have. We can also love people by simply being a true and loyal friend to them in a society where that is becoming ever increasingly hard to find. Through a kind word or a word of encouragement, we can show love to almost anyone we encounter if we just take an extra moment to engage them, and invest in them, seeing and interacting with them as if they are real and matter. We might love through service by providing meals for a family who has lost a loved one to death or by visiting a sick person we know and helping by cleaning their house for them. We might bag up all those clothes we no longer want, and most likely never needed, then take them to someone we know who would benefit from them. God provides us so many opportunities, daily, to love Him, ourselves, and others if we are only willing to slow down and take the time to do so. We just need to have the willingness to act.

When it comes to expressing love, my personal preference in how I wish to display godly agape love is through giving people my time. I choose this method for a number of reasons but my primary reason is that my time, is the only thing I can give that I can never get back – time is my, our, most valuable commodity we have to offer in life and how we spend it is immensely important.

In the segments that follow this piece, we will be looking specifically at the fruit of the Spirit and its individual qualities, which are manifest in a Believer by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit. Those virtues are listed in the Book of Galatians and are as follows.

Galatians 5:22–23 (NKJV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness [KJV – gentleness], goodness, faithfulness [KJV – faith], 23 gentleness [KJV – Meekness], self-control [KJV – temperance].

Exactly how do they become a tangible existence in a person life? How do they become evident to the point of being able to be discerned and appraised as coming from God? Let me answer by asking a few more questions. How did you receive salvation from Christ? You asked, you believed, and you acted upon what you believed. How do you obtain daily salvation from Christ, as is found in the redeeming of your lifestyles? You ask, you believe, and you act upon what you believe. How do you manifest the fruit of the Spirit? You ask Jesus to manifest it in your character, you believe that the finished work of the cross secured that manifestation for you once you reached the point where you were ready to ask, and you act upon what you believe and make room in your spirit for the fruit of the Spirit to come forth.

Here is where the problem comes in. People do not make room in their spirits for the fruit of the Spirit to manifest. God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all gentlemen and will not press themselves on anyone who does not wish Their Presence. Freewill is a major part of not only the salvation process but also our entire relationship with Christ. If we do not want to change, He will not force us to change.

There are so many things that can take priority over allowing the Holy Spirit to manifest the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. We have all types of desires, which compete continually, with our willingness to allow God’s character to become our character. We contend daily with our desires versus God’s instructions to us. We struggle daily with our willingness to do our portion, the “if[s]” in life, in order to see God’s promises manifest in our reality.

Then there is the dreaded “feelings” which always give God a run for His money in people’s lives. If something goes wrong people want it made right immediately, they must feel better now, or the ugly man in them begins to appear. Sadly, for many people being grouchy or ill tempered gives them a false sense of power and control – not to mention it might bring them, the all time favorite they seek, attention. This is a very self-centered attitude to have when our feeling are not what we desire. Our reactions are our choice. Our attitudes are our choice. We would be wise to begin to listen to God and not our feelings so we can make the best choices in life.

The worse thing I believe that hinders God’s ability to manifest His Will, His Spirit, His Purpose, His Character, the fruit of the Spirit, etc. in a person’s life is our worse enemy, “self”. When we become the all-powerful and all-knowing sovereign king of our universe, we might as well build houses for depression, bitterness, worry, insecurity, addiction, fear, loneliness, and anger, as they will be moving in because we have rebelled against God’s proper authority in our life. People makes themselves a prisoner of their own mind and heart, driving themselves to be something they are not; like God makes mistakes in who He created us to be, where He placed us in life, and where He wants to take us.

Acts 17:26–27 (NKJV)

26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;

Each day we make the choices, which make room in our lives and spirits for God to work and bring about His Plan, His Purpose, His Will, and His Character to include the virtues of the fruit of the Spirit. You can sit by and slothfully wish that the random happening of your life will bring about God’s Will and Character, which it rarely does, or you can cooperate with God and with the Spirit of God by responding and obeying the promptings of God, which is what it means to apply the cross of Christ, thus allowing God to strengthen the mental, emotional, and spiritual part of your life. It is ultimately your choice, a choice that God will greatly respect.

The religious community today is full of what was written about in Jeremiah 23 – woe to this country.

Jeremiah 23 (NKJV)

The Branch of Righteousness

23 “Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the Lord. 2 Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people: “You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings,” says the Lord. 3 “But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. 4 I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says the Lord.

5 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,

“That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;

A King shall reign and prosper,

And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

6 In His days Judah will be saved,

And Israel will dwell safely;

Now this is His name by which He will be called:

THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS

7 “Therefore, behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “that they shall no longer say, ‘As the Lord lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,’ 8 but, ‘As the Lord lives who brought up and led the descendants of the house of Israel from the north country and from all the countries where I had driven them.’ And they shall dwell in their own land.”

False Prophets and Empty Oracles

9 My heart within me is broken

Because of the prophets;

All my bones shake.

I am like a drunken man,

And like a man whom wine has overcome,

Because of the Lord,

And because of His holy words.

10 For the land is full of adulterers;

For because of a curse the land mourns.

The pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up.

Their course of life is evil,

And their might is not right.

11 “For both prophet and priest are profane;

Yes, in My house I have found their wickedness,” says the Lord.

12 “Therefore their way shall be to them

Like slippery ways;

In the darkness they shall be driven on

And fall in them;

For I will bring disaster on them,

The year of their punishment,” says the Lord.

13 “And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria:

They prophesied by Baal

And caused My people Israel to err.

14 Also I have seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem:

They commit adultery and walk in lies;

They also strengthen the hands of evildoers,

So that no one turns back from his wickedness.

All of them are like Sodom to Me,

And her inhabitants like Gomorrah.

15 “Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets:

‘Behold, I will feed them with wormwood,

And make them drink the water of gall;

For from the prophets of Jerusalem

Profaneness has gone out into all the land.’ ”

16 Thus says the Lord of hosts:

“Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you.

They make you worthless;

They speak a vision of their own heart,

Not from the mouth of the Lord.

17 They continually say to those who despise Me,

‘The Lord has said, “You shall have peace” ’;

And to everyone who walks according to the dictates of his own heart, they say,

‘No evil shall come upon you.’ ”

18 For who has stood in the counsel of the Lord,

And has perceived and heard His word?

Who has marked His word and heard it?

19 Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord has gone forth in fury—

A violent whirlwind!

It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.

20 The anger of the Lord will not turn back

Until He has executed and performed the thoughts of His heart.

In the latter days you will understand it perfectly.

21 “I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran.

I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.

22 But if they had stood in My counsel,

And had caused My people to hear My words,

Then they would have turned them from their evil way

And from the evil of their doings.

23 “Am I a God near at hand,” says the Lord,

“And not a God afar off?

24 Can anyone hide himself in secret places,

So I shall not see him?” says the Lord;

“Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord.

25 “I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in My name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ 26 How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Indeed they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart, 27 who try to make My people forget My name by their dreams which everyone tells his neighbor, as their fathers forgot My name for Baal.

28 “The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream;

And he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully.

What is the chaff to the wheat?” says the Lord.

29 “Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord,

“And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

30 “Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” says the Lord, “who steal My words every one from his neighbor. 31 Behold, I am against the prophets,” says the Lord, “who use their tongues and say, ‘He says.’ 32 Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” says the Lord, “and tell them, and cause My people to err by their lies and by their recklessness. Yet I did not send them or command them; therefore they shall not profit this people at all,” says the Lord.

33 “So when these people or the prophet or the priest ask you, saying, ‘What is the oracle of the Lord?’ you shall then say to them, ‘What oracle?’ I will even forsake you,” says the Lord. 34 “And as for the prophet and the priest and the people who say, ‘The oracle of the Lord!’ I will even punish that man and his house. 35 Thus every one of you shall say to his neighbor, and every one to his brother, ‘What has the Lord answered?’ and, ‘What has the Lord spoken?’ 36 And the oracle of the Lord you shall mention no more. For every man’s word will be his oracle, for you have perverted the words of the living God, the Lord of hosts, our God. 37 Thus you shall say to the prophet, ‘What has the Lord answered you?’ and, ‘What has the Lord spoken?’ 38 But since you say, ‘The oracle of the Lord!’ therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Because you say this word, “The oracle of the Lord!” and I have sent to you, saying, “Do not say, ‘The oracle of the Lord!’ ” 39 therefore behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you and forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and will cast you out of My presence. 40 And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.’ ”

Update

It has been brought to my attention that I might need to provide a bit more information on this particular post therefore, I am providing this update.

In the Book of Jeremiah chapter one specifically, we see a glimpse into the call of a prophet by God. Whereas, NT prophets/prophetess [prophet of today] differ from the OT prophetess/prophets [Ancient Biblical prophets] their overall mission remains the same, which is to communicate God’s Truth to God’s people – this is the purpose for which they are called and consecrated.

A man I consider to be one of the most respected prophets of our current day, on a worldwide scale, stated today that, ‘The current attack that Satan has levied against the Church is the most serious attack he believes has taken place since the Reformation.’

The attack that he is referring to is the Apostate Churches – seeker sensitive, purpose driven, word of faith, motivational, holiness by works – types of churches where truth and error are mixed, where godly principles are mixed with worldly principles – churches which have apostatized from True Biblical Christian Devotion to Jesus and the Cross of Christ.

We need always remember the more we reject the Truth the harder it becomes to hear God and recognize the Truth.

The three most common ways to dry fruit would be either in the oven, in an electric dehydrator, or in the air/sun. Each method has its pros and cons, taking different lengths of time; nevertheless all three will eventually get the job done. All three require that air be present and able to circulate around the fruit. All three require that the temperature applied to the fruit be low, yet steady, just hot enough to drain the fruit of its moisture. There are times when slowly, through the applying of just enough heat, while still being able to fully breathe air spiritually we are drained ever so carefully and slowing of our spiritual fruit.

Let me get personal for a moment. I recently went through something physical, which was out of my control and the result physically left me perplexed. Though intellectually I could understand what was wrong with me I knew there was a missing component. Whereas, I was sad over the physical problem and obviously sad over the cause, deep inside I felt the sadness much more intensely than seemed to be warranted physically. A second dynamic was that even though I continued to sense the still small voice of God on all kinds of matters, I could not get understanding on why this sadness seemed so profound. Then I realized a spiritual principle I had known for too many years to be hiding from at that point. You cannot hear God’s true guidance and His real Voice, inside yourself, if you are not truly willing to hear Him on and know His Will in the matter.

I immediately repented and sought to hear and understand God clearly on this matter. His still small voice came through as clear as ever inside my spirit. The deep sadness I felt was over the realization that while I simply journeyed on in my walk and service with the Lord I had allow fruit dryers to drain my joy. It was not a conscious choice but it was a choice by default and one that had consequences because when I needed my joy to combat a physical cause of sadness I was lacking – joy was in short supply.

Spiritual translation…

Having endured a tough couple of years, it climaxed in a very unpleasant event, which resulted in physical injury for me. I am fine now and getting back to better than normal with each passing day. This event thrust me into a sense of sadness over all those people who I deemed “ungrateful” in the world. My sadness caused me to begin to think very negatively about them all. Until God showed me clearly that my sadness was not because of an injury, it was not because of ungrateful people, it was not because I was physically uncomfortable for a while – my sadness was because I had allowed myself to be drained of my personal resources, energies, and spiritual fruit by unproductive ventures, also known as, dried fruit. The moment I made the realization and set to make things right through repentance, taking an active role with God’s leading to change those choices, my sadness lifted and I began to feel joy again – I began to feel like me.

Anyone is vulnerable to being drained by Dried Fruit if they are not mindful of their lives, their service, and their God-given purpose. Almost anything or anyone can be Dried Fruit in your life. It can be a job that is no longer God’s Will for you. It can be an event you agreed to be a part of but now you see you have made an error. It can be a family member who requires more than you have to give and more than they should receive. It can be a lifestyle trait that is no longer working [God] for you. It can be a resistance that has settled in your soul, which keeps you in one place and out of the place, God wants you to be. It can be a person you love but who is poison for you. It can be someone you minister to that drains your spiritual resources without any real signs of growth, tangible results or change. It can be a ministry your doing that God was done with ages ago. It can be your own desire to have, to do, to be, etc. anything beyond or outside of God’s Will for you.

I know I pursued my Dried Fruit relentlessly and by doing so dried my own fruit. How did I let this happen and why did I do this? I understand why, but why is no excuse for allowing it to happen. I love people. Once I love you, I love, and that is that. I am dedicated and loyal to that love and to you or the venture in which I am partaking. This is a godly trait and good spiritual fruit but when my own spiritual fruit becomes something that can be used against me, it becomes dangerous – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Did you get that? Your own spiritual fruit can be used against you by Dried Fruit who will in turn suck you dry if they are allowed. Whether it is a group or an individual, whether they realize it or not, whether it is done through innocence or malice – all is irrelevant, it is your responsibility to regularly check your fruit with God and allow Him to do the necessary pruning in your life to ensure your continued fruit bearing.

What would God desire to prune out of your life so you can bear more fruit?

John 15:2 (NKJV) Jesus speaking

Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

When you combine all the various aspects of both spiritual fruit and the fruits of the Spirit found in lifestyle fruit, service fruit, doctrinal fruit and trait fruit what emerges is three overwhelming passions characteristic of the hardcore spiritually uncompromising Devoted Follower of Jesus. These individual have found the Center of what, all of life is truly about. The merging of all aspects of spiritual fruit collides in one spiritually passionate child of God.

Those three overwhelming passions, also a form of spiritual fruit, are as follows. 1 – A quest to make Truth known, understood, and accepted. 2 – A desire to know and do the Will of God. 3 – A willingness to expose sin.

Ephesians 5:8–13 (NKJV)

Walk in Light

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.

The fruit of Truth is found within the deeply committed Follower of Christ. They wish the Truth of God’s Word to be known and properly understood. That Truth is the primary guiding force of their life for within that Truth is all the answers to life and all godly wisdom. These individual have come to realize that Truth is the final authority on all matters and the only real spiritual power. You can be in a group of people ranging from the youngest person in the Lord to the godliest spiritual leader who has served Christ for years and within that group, the individual who holds the spiritual authority is the individual who is speaking spiritual Truth because Spiritual Truth is the ultimate authority. Spiritual Truth makes Christ known, Truth is Christ – Truth is not just a principle, concept, or thing it is a person, Jesus the Christ. – – John 14:6 (NKJV) – Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

When a person has truly surrendered to Christ, and His lordship over their lives they exhibit the fruit of desiring to both know and do His Will. A deep transformation has taken place in the individual where a level of spiritual understanding and trust has conquered all personal resistance. Individuals who bear this fruit know that God’s Will far surpasses in goodness and satisfaction anything they can dream of or conceive on their own. They trust that their Lord, their God, knows them better than they know themselves and what He directs them to do or not do is in their very best interest in life. Beyond the person, these people burn with a yearning for others to know and desire to do God’s Will above their own. For some individuals it is even hard to imagine why people would want their own will over God’s Will. The Will of God brings true life, hope, rest, purpose, fulfillment, and so much more to life – desiring it cannot and will never fail you.

A spiritual fruit, which seems in short supply these days, is the distain for and abhorring of sin, both personal sin and sin on other peoples part. To abhor sin is not to condemn or judge a person; it is however, using spiritual discernment to recognize sin as sin. We are required as a people of God to have no fellowship with darkness partaking in its sin[s], we are rather to expose it for what it is – sin. Our mere presence in the environment of sin and darkness puts our stamps of approval on what is taking place. The sold-out type of individuals I referred to earlier are not going to endure the environment of sin for long. If they have personal sin in their lives, they will loath themselves to some degree until that sin is dealt with and removed. If they are around sin being committed by others, they are very uncomfortable and usually feel intensely compelled to speak out against the sin, which is exactly what the Scripture above tells us to do. Vanilla Christians and/or religious people often call these Dedicated Spiritual Remnant intolerant – well, they are to some degree, intolerant of sin, sin not people. People have greatly misappropriated the Scripture about ‘love covering a multitude of sin’ [1 Peter 4:8], which has more to with not becoming easily offended by your brothers and sisters in Christ and less to do with actually overlooking, covering up, or not addressing sin in your or another person’s life. We do not lavish or reward “sin” with misappropriated spiritual fruit we instead expose it thus bearing true spiritual fruit.

In this part of the series, we will primarily focus on trait fruit, such as the fruit of the Spirit.

We will start by introducing the fruit of the Spirit – those traits which can be found in the CURRENT Spiritual Remnant of God but that might not be found in religious individuals. In this part of the series, we will not cover the fruit of the Spirit in detail, as we will at a later date; this will be a mere overview. In future pieces we will cover the individual traits found within the fruit of the Spirit in detail.

An import aspect of studying the fruit of the Spirit is to realize and process spiritually the fact that it is “the fruit of the Spirit” and not the fruits of the Spirit, in the plural sense. Most commonly, it is referred to as the fruits of the Spirit but it is not several aspects or traits it is one spiritual trait. It is the evidence of the, singular, Spirit of God within a person’s life, character, heart, and spirit.

No one individual possesses one hundred percent of God’s Spiritual Character, we by His grace manifest portions of that character to certain degrees. One Spiritual Remnant might manifest ten percent “peace” and eighty percent “goodness”. Nevertheless, they manifest both to some degree because they belong to, and are dedicated to, the Almighty. The point being, at different times in life people will manifest different degrees of the fruit of the Spirit. What serves as proof one is walking in the Spirit – being led by the Spirit – is the fact that there is a greater evidence of “the fruit of the Spirit” than there is evidence of the “works of the flesh” in their lives. If an individual after spiritual conversion for an extended period of time continues to manifest more of the works of the flesh than they do the fruit of the Spirit, said individual might need to reexamine the sincerity of their commitment to Jesus the Christ.

Please note the actual spiritual fruit traits are underlined.

Galatians 5:16–26 (NKJV)

Walking in the Spirit

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness[KJV – lasciviousness], 20 idolatry, sorcery [KJV – witchcraft], hatred, contentions [KJV – variance], jealousies [KJV – emulations], outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, [KJV – strife] [KJV – seditions]21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness [KJV – gentleness], goodness, faithfulness [KJV – faith], 23 gentleness [KJV – Meekness], self-control [KJV – temperance]. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

What are your percentages? Is there more evidence of the fruit of Spirit or more evidence of the works of the flesh? Scripture warns us to ‘examine ourselves and see if we are in the faith’ [2 Corinthians 13:5].

In the series introduction, we explored examples of misappropriation of something in order to create an inaccurate understanding, example, belief, façade, etc. To ones horror, this happens with the Holy Scriptures of God as well. People misuse or take Scripture passages out of context distorting their meaning, changing their meaning, or adding to [stretching] their meaning beyond original intent.

Now that said let me explain something about Scripture and the meanings of words or phrases in Scripture. Read this careful and do not take my comments here out of context.

Scripture, the Holy Bible, is the LITERAL Word of God. Within it, we find literal events with a spiritually figurative meaning. Meaning, it has spiritual application for us today even though the principles, guidelines, and events one is reading about happened and/or were written down so many years ago. Very often when you look up a word or phrase from the Bible in the Hebrew [OT] or even more often in the Greek [NT] Language, within the definition will be a notation that the word or phrase has both “literal” and “figurative” meaning, literal and figurative, not or figurative – this equals literal and spiritual application/meaning.

Keeping that in mind, we shall proceed.

“Fruit”- spiritual fruit and the fruit of the Holy Spirit involve the entirety of a person not a single aspect of their life, lifestyle, character, demeanor, etc. Therefore, when reading and study on the subject of “fruit” in the Scriptures one must examine the overall context of what is being taught.

The following two teachings Jesus taught about bearing fruit is a good example of how Scripture has been stretched by individuals in order to put too much or all the focus on one type of fruit. These particular Scriptures have more to do with lifestyle, service, and doctrinal fruit than they do trait fruit, as found in Galatians chapter five.

Please note underlining.

Matthew 7:15–21 (NKJV) Jesus speaking

False and True Teaching

Luke 6:43–45 [Gospels harmony]

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Luke 6:39–45 (NKJV) Jesus speaking

Parable of the Blind Leading the Blind

Matt. 7:3–5, 16–18 [Gospels Harmony]

39 And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? 40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher. 41 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye.

43 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Though many individuals attempt to apply these two teaching of Jesus primarily to trait fruit which is listed in Galatians, these particular passages have more to do with lifestyle, service, and doctrinal fruit than they do trait fruit, as change in life direction, not simply change in character, is the primary focus of surrounding teachings.

Therefore, Jesus is instructing them to look at the “fruit” of those who will come in His Name claiming to be His Followers. They are false prophets if they are teaching another Jesus, strange doctrine or distorted doctrine that does not line up with the overall Truth of Scripture. Their fruit, their teaching, will be bad – a distortion of Scripture. This is ramped in the religious community today. Between the inclusion teaching, the motivational/positive thinking teaching, extremely distorted word of faith teaching, prosperity teaching, God manipulation teaching, etc. many, once true Believers have been lead into the spiritual ditch where spiritually they are starving to death and dying. People are starving because they are living off low-grade morsels of food instead of real spiritually nutritious food.

That said, a side note here. People are getting what they wanted. They had/have itching ears – as Scripture said they would – and they no longer desired the Truth of the Word of God they want/wanted to feel good so greedy religious leaders out of a love for money – as Scripture warned against a leader becoming – greedy religious leaders gave the people what they wanted. False teaching is a product of bad doctrinal fruit. Whereas, lack of a specific fruit of the Spirit does not disqualify a person for service or ministry the manifestation of the wrong fruit/works doctrinally in the form of false teaching can and should. We are to flee false teachers and teachings.

When people say they know Christ, yet they continue in their same pre-Christ lifestyle year after year and with no desire to serve the Lord Jesus in any capacity whatsoever they are displaying bad lifestyle and service fruit. In Acts 19:11-20 we see the people of Ephesus steeped in occultism, black magic, witchcraft, etc. turn to Jesus and immediately burn all their books [v.19] and begin to service the Lord.

A progressive change in lifestyle and priorities is evidence of good fruit and a true commitment to Christ. That said, please note some people will cling to one particular area of sin or selfish behavior for years before they completely release it to the Lord Jesus but if someone is clinging to all their past behavior and progressing spiritually almost none at all then there is a problem.

In the area of service, spiritual leaders should be warned against over investing in the above-described type of person. There responsibility before God is to see to it they invest their time wisely, in those who want to and show evidence of spiritual growth and change. Moreover, service is another area where all Believers should be bearing good fruit. Paul certainly desired to bear fruit.

Romans 1:13 (NKJV)

Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles.

Both spiritual leaders and Believers should exhibit some form of good fruit. If a Believer claims to be a Believer but has zero interest in seeing the Kingdom of God grow in some manner, in some form, to some degree, then, again, something is wrong because they are exhibiting bad fruit.

This should bring a more balanced view to lifestyle, service, and doctrinal fruit versus trait fruit, which we will cover in future parts of this series.

In part one we determined that outward manners are no indicator of true spiritual fruit or the fruits of the Spirit being manifest in someone’s life via the Holy Spirit. The lack thereof of good manners is no clear indicator either. I have known men and women of God who were very much lead by the Spirit of God, serving God, and love God dearly but lacked in some area of manners, spiritual fruit, or had what one might call an Achilles Heel. In later segments, we will explore how lack of a specific fruit of the Spirit does not disqualify a person but manifestation of the wrong fruit/works can. In this part, we will examine the difference between fruit and vegetables, thus giving us a clue to how we can spot each within the spiritual and religious communities of our day.

The Bible directs us to be individual who bear fruit, not be spiritual vegetables. Spiritually speaking what would be fruit and what would be a vegetable. We will start by actually looking at the definitions of both words.

fruit =

noun = 2 : OFFSPRING, PROGENY
progeny = 2 : OUTCOME, PRODUCT
3 : a body of followers, disciples, or successors

Fruit, spiritually speaking, is a manifestation of what is left behind in other people that was passed on or poured into said people by the fruit bearer/individual. This type of fruit is not always found in the process but instead in the result, the outcome, the end product. Did the person have something that they passed on to others, which was spiritually sound and beneficial.

vegetable =

adj. = 3 : resembling or suggesting a plant (as in inertness or passivity)

inertness = lack of action or activity see INACTION

noun = 3 : a person whose mental and physical functioning is severely impaired and especially one who requires supportive measures (as mechanical ventilation) to survive

A spiritual vegetable can be spotted by their passivity and apathy toward the things of God. They often lack any spiritual activities beyond maybe church attendance, which does not make anyone spiritual or even a true Believer. Spiritually there seems to be no pulse in these individuals, they cannot see God in the world, in their lives, or in their communities. If they were ever truly spiritually regenerated in Christ Jesus they are now simply on spiritual life-support barely spiritually alive.

Our desire should be to surround ourselves with those individuals given to being spiritually fruitful versus hanging out with a bunch of vegetables.

I am known for telling, writing and teaching people to connect the dots in their lives. Our lives are not a random set of coincidences, happenstance, or lucky chance it is a progression through all the days God has given us on this earth. Therefore, I am about to connect the dots in and around my life.

Whereas, this posting and the godly principles found therein will be applicable for anyone, there have been four specific people in my life, which God has used to prompt me to obey Him in writing this piece. None of those four people have anything that connects them expect me and they do not know each other but this will speak to each of them as if God intended it just for them. God works that way you see. He is the One Who Sees and meets all our needs. With that, I will launch out into the deep and I pray your spirit receives God’s message.

In the introduction to this series, I talked about misappropriation for a wrong purpose. However, is misappropriation always wrong or with a wrong motive? I say, no, not consciously. It is because I believe that I wish to make this my first piece in the series. I wish to preserve the heart of the blind, the spiritually ignorant, and/or the innocent.

You see there is a group of True Believers, the Remnant, out there who are functioning in manners and manipulation and calling it the fruit and power of the Holy Spirit. This group is what I refer to as the Walking Wounded. They are Believers who have come to Christ and sincerely given Him their heart but they have been so wounded, twisted, and distorted by the world and the Enemy that they are so desperate to be better they embark on a mission of self-reform, which leads them to works of the flesh that manifest in good manners as a replacement for fruit and manipulation as a replacement for spiritual power and godly trust.

Now clearly manipulation is not of God and completely wrong in God’s eyes, He sees it as a form of witchcraft steeped in rebellion. Good manners on the other hand are something most parents aspire to teach their children. I was heavily groomed in good manners myself. There is a different between having sincerely good manner and displaying good manners in order to appear good, look okay, feel acceptable or superior, and/or compensate for feeling of unworthiness or low self-esteem. You can display all the good manners you would like it will not change what is going on inside of you, all the nasty dirty thoughts about other people’s behavior, actions, spiritual fruit, and/or manners. One must remember, contrary to the world’s claims, just because you look good does not make you good. I would like to state once again, people act this way, feel this way, have these thoughts, etc. because they are wounded. They have been wounded by life, people, their family, the church, their friends, spiritual leaders, Satan, and even God in their own minds, though absolutely not true.

These wounded people keep running in circles, never getting better, trying on all the world’s ideas for building and repairing their fragile self-esteem to no avail. Why?

If you cannot submit to the very core, the very basics of your existence…

God’s providence in your life, meaning the family where He set you in the world. In God’s design and creations of you. In the fact that you are male or female. In the fact that you look a certain way. In the fact that you have a particular temperament with strengths and weaknesses.

If you cannot submit to the core aspects of God’s reign and rule over your life and your existence you cannot have healthy self-esteem. Good self-esteem, godly self-esteem, is not possible because you are continually at war with who God created you to be. If you are continually at war with whom God created you to be, you are continually at war with yourself. You are continually destroying yourself and your own self-esteem.

By being at war with God through lack of submission, by being at war with self by lack of acceptance, you find yourself at war with the world and your spiritual enemy, Satan. He is readily available to tear your self-esteem down even further. It is a vicious never-ending circle.

Satan is able to gain access to a person’s life this way because you cannot walk outside of obedience to God’s Will for you and be able to walk with God’s hedge of protection around you, which protects you from the Enemy.

An 18th century philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, said, “Hell is the truth learned/seen too late.” Whereas, I am not given to philosophy, nor do I read it or recommend reading it, this particular saying has truth within it. We often make our own lives a form of hell on earth because we refuse to accept and walk in truth, Truth based in the Truth of God’s Word and the Principles found therein.

In conclusion, remember…

God’s grace does not override our freewill. God gave us a will and it is only through giving that will back to Him we can find freedom in Him. We give that will back to Him through moment-by-moment obedience, which is prompted by and empowered by His grace. Whereas, He prompts us to do, He will not force us to do, because that would violate His own spiritual law – our right to choose – freewill.

The giving over of our ideas of who we are or should be, for God’s design of who He created us to be and who He wants us to be it a vital moment in a person’s existence. It is called, godly surrender. Many people know Christ who have never surrendered their lives to Christ. The giving over of our will is the beginning of truly living, the beginning of being alive, the beginning of true purpose, the beginning of godly self-esteem – – it is the beginning of EVERYTHING.

“surrender” per Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary

transitive verb
1 a : to yield to the power, control, or possession of another upon compulsion or demand <surrendered the fort> b : to give up completely or agree to forgo especially in favor of another
2 a : to give (oneself) up into the power of another especially as a prisoner b : to give (oneself) over to something (as an influence)
intransitive verb : to give oneself up into the power of another : YIELD
synonyms see RELINQUISH

Re-posting in advance of Part 1

Sunday, September 15, 2013

As of late, there has been a topic, which has reemerged many different times in several different ways and is now something about which God has given me a mandate to write. That topic is spiritual fruit. Through discussions about sanctification this issue of a Believer’s part in fruit bearing has arouse. Over a meal at a restaurant with several young women and one very slow as well as inattentive server, the matter of applying spiritual fruit to our daily situations became our topic and quest. Then finally, through a simple statement from a protégé, ‘I would like to know the actual definitions for the fruit of the Spirit.’ This individual was referring to the spiritual fruit characteristic listed in the Book of Galatians.

Spiritual fruit. What it is and what it is not. Seems like a simple question right? Well, it is not that simple, as we will explore. Why? Because spiritual fruit and the fruits of the Spirit are another Bible principle that has been very misunderstood because it has been misappropriated.

Let us explore the idea of misappropriation for moment. Here are a few examples of misappropriation to ponder for which the use of will seem much clearer as we progress through this series.

Gun Violence:

There is a “Gun Violence List” which opponents to gun ownership use in order to show us the horrors of gun violence. Not too long ago one of the names on this list was the name of a young man who was labeled a ‘terrorist’ by our government. His name showed up on that list as a victim of gun violence. The discovery of this young man’s name on this list is how the truth about the names and numbers of people on the list surfaced. This young man had, from all evidence, set off a bomb in Boston and was later shot and killed by the police while they tried to apprehend him. This person, labeled a terrorist, was later labeled a victim of gun violence and placed on a list that government officials use to try to justify their case for gun control and gun ownership restriction. Come to find out there were many, many, names on that list of people who had been shot by law enforcement during a criminal act, the number was outstanding. Victims of gun violence? Really? No, there was a misappropriation of information in order to support a desired end.

Intelligence:

There is intelligence, book learning, and paper intelligence. Two out of three are a misappropriation of true intelligence. Paper intelligence is a person who holds a degree in higher education and therefore is presumed to be intelligent even though the individual did little on their own to obtain that degree, having primarily bought their way through the process. Yes, it happens. Book learning is someone who has acquired a great deal of information in his or her mind but has no idea how to use that information in life. Intelligence is the ability to acquire knowledge, apply knowledge, to reason, use common sense, problem solve, navigate situations successfully and possession of some degree of wisdom. True intelligence is not easily recognized today or understood properly. Why? A misappropriation of the fundamentals of what true intelligence looks like.

Fruit, Manners, Manipulation:

The final example would be trying to determine if something is fruit, manners, or manipulation. Spiritual fruit and the fruits of the Spirit come from a heart that loves Jesus and is given over to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Good manners are the world’s misappropriation of spiritual fruit and/or the fruits of the Sprit. A person can exemplify kindness, gentleness, self-control, most if not all of the fruits of the Spirit listed in the Bible and be rotten to core on the inside. Outward manners are no indicator of true spiritual fruit or the fruits of the Spirit manifest in someone’s life via the Holy Spirit. A more sinister form of misappropriation, or more to the point a counterfeit of spiritual fruit, is the exhibition of what appears to be the fruits of the Spirit for the purpose of manipulation. This manipulation is intended strictly for getting what one wants, for using people in some manner. I realize it sounds horrible and some people even look at subtle forms of manipulation as politeness or tact, but nevertheless, it is an indirect attempt to get from another person information or action one wants. Not everyone intends to manipulate by the way they act and handle other people. Some do it without thinking, some are more sinister and others think as I already stated that they are being polite. I want bother to address the flat out manipulators who are attempting to use people but I will address briefly the more innocent manipulators. All manipulation is not of God but of Satan and with that said both God and Satan know people have needs. Satan preys on those needs to motive people to manipulate others to get those needs met. People need to be more open, honest, and straightforward about getting their need for love, significance, stability control, appreciation, security, care, attention, companionship, etc. met so they can live with people without playing games, something more accurately defined as manipulation.

I leave you with two thoughts to ponder leading up to the next piece, which will be “Fruit or Vegetable” Series, part one.

1. Both, true spiritual fruit and the fruits of the Spirit should manifest in the CURRENT Spiritual Remnants life via the Holy Spirit.

2. The Bible directs us to be individual who bear fruit, not be spiritual vegetables.

Clearly, there is something that has changed in Israel currently and God seems to be moving and working among us. I shall explain.

Israel is a place on which I always keep my spiritual eyes.

About every thirty days, the site managers for the blog provide me with a breakdown of the stats detailing the readership for the month. These stats include the country and the number of readers in that country. Within the last thirty days, we have gone from a state where I cannot ever remember seeing the name “Israel” to having as many readers in Israel as we do in the United States. This tells me clearly, that basically overnight, God is working and doing something in this spiritual area.

Therefore, I would like to extend this invitation.

If you are an individual in Israel who is a brother or sister in Christ Jesus, I welcome hearing from you. If you are a person in Israel who has come to believe that Jesus was the promised Messiah of the Jewish people, I welcome hearing from you. I would like to know what Jesus has put in your heart, what Jesus is doing in your land, and how you see the current moving of God in Israel.

Please feel free to use the “comment” link below as a source of making contact with me. I assure you all your private information within any correspondence will be kept confidential. I only use general descriptions of events, individual, or circumstances where God is moving and working in my writings and teachings.

We always look to Israel as a source and sign of prophetic happenings within the world. I look forward to a greater understanding of what God is doing among His people. I also look forward to passing along anything God allows to be passed along via this blog.

May God be with you, Shalom?

God would like to know, ‘Are your hands still on the plow?’

Luke 9:62 (NKJV) Jesus speaking:

But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

The heading that precedes that Scripture is titled, “The True Cost of Discipleship” and the title says, it all. Discipleship cost. Jesus warned one might have to give up everything for Him in order to receive what is referred to as the “Apostles’ Reward” or the Believers counterpart.

Matthew 19:29 (NKJV) Jesus speaking:

And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.

Two of Christ’s Beloved Children contrasted. One many years ago when struggling with doubts, concerns, and what if’s received a Word from the Lord that, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” That wonderful Servant of the Lord put their flesh aside with all it humanness, fears, and desires and chose to serve the Lord. That individual was and has been greatly rewarded by the Lord Jesus in more ways than I can count for their service and is now one of many of the Lord’s Servants preparing a place of refuse for those individual whom will come out of the now nearing persecution and revival of the true Body of Christ. The other Beloved Child of God decided their will was better and that giving up their desires for their Sunday afternoon was too much obedience, too much submission, and too much to give to the Lord Jesus. Time will reveal their fruit, their reward for the choice they made in their hearts. The end for someone who turns away from God’s Will is not pretty.

2 Peter 2:20–22 (NKJV)

20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

We have now entered a season of open persecution, legislated by a governmental body, of the true Christian, the CURRENT Spiritual Remnant of God, in America. In the city of San Antonio, Texas, where family values are supposed to be held in high regard, there is a new city ordinance meant to stop discrimination, which actually discriminates against Christians. The San Antonio City Council members added new language to the city’s nondiscrimination policy. It now says, ‘anyone who may have "demonstrated a bias" based on sexual orientation cannot work with the city or run for city office.’ This can and will deeply effect the influence and productivity of both Christian Business People and Spiritual Leaders in San Antonio. A deeper examination of this ordinance reveals this would make it legally possible for Christian business people who are outspoken about the biblical view of the homosexual lifestyle to be charged with a misdemeanors crime. A Class 3 Misdemeanor , I believe.

The CURRENT Spiritual Remnant of God, if they stay true to God, will find themselves persecuted here in America. A while back, the call went out for the True Remnant to begin to unify and bring themselves into unity around Christ and true devotion to Biblical Principles. Persecution for the individual in a unified group is going to very difficult, persecution for the individual alone will be almost impossible. As we enter this time-period in the history of America, and we are at the threshold, what can we look around and see. Where have we been? How did we get here? What happens next?

Just as in Biblical Times, we see a parallel to all that took place with our own modern day slant. While the Church focused more and more on other lands, missions in other countries, their own country [house] was falling into disrepair.

Next came the apostasy of the church. The removal of all things God and Christ. The generalizing of religion to be all-inclusive. The crosses came down and eventually Jesus left the buildings. When is the last time you heard the true gospel presented in your church? When was the last time you were told you would have to depend on the cross of Christ to free you from what had you bound, that you must trust in Him and Him alone? No, religion is its own god. They do things their way; they deliver themselves through their works. What started out as a good thing, to love people into the kingdom, turned into something Satan used to destroy the American Christian Church because we lowered the Standard of God to make the person feel better, feel more love, feel more accepted, feel… now we live with the results – rampant apostasy. Just as in the days when Jesus walked the earth, we have lots of religion and boy isn’t and hasn’t religion done its damage.

A note of irony. During the reformation, people broke away from religion in order to worship God freely, as in the beginning when the Christ’s Church was started, before the days of corporate church and politics. American itself was fruit from that movement. What will be the fruit of the next move of God when His Remnant seek to flee persecution and a forced form of religion once again?

There will be great fleeing from persecution and great revival because of persecution.

There is a progression of both revelation and persecution. The prophets typically see God’s Plan and Will first and are the first to be persecuted in an area. Prophets today, as New Testament Prophetic People, do not add to Biblical text or change Biblical prophecies; their prophecies illuminate what is already established in God’s Word. These NOW Prophets and Prophetess have already suffered persecution for holding up the Standard, Principles, and Will of God as found in His Word. Persecution from both the world, the word systems /government, and persecution from the apostate church, just as Jesus and His Followers were persecuted in Biblical days of old by the religious community and governmental system [specifically Roman].

Currently true spiritual leaders find themselves beginning to come under such persecution, while at the same time realizing revival is coming. Next, the scattered Remnant of God, the truly Devoted Follower of Christ will begin to feel the pains of persecution and experience the joy of knowing revival is coming.

There are many Dear Ones out there who Satan has attempted to trampled without prevailing, Praise be to God. Of those Dear Ones, many come to mind but two specifically I will mention. One left their home, their comfort and took their family to San Antonio, Texas no less to help begin a church there – no doubt, God wishes to use this Beloved One for His glory. Another, the individual mentioned earlier as the Dear One who kept their hand on the plow and went forward, has entered yet another season of service with their spouse. This Dear One will be a part of providing a place of refreshing for those fleeing persecution. Living in an isolated area of the country helps them provide a place where those in need can go and rest, either for short or long periods of time, before going back into the world to continue the work God has given them to do. They will also be able to equip those who come through revival and will need equipping for the work of the Lord.

People, you will have to decide what you believe, who you believe, and whom you will serve. A day is coming when on some level, whether great or small, you will have to choose to honor God and His Principles or honor man’s ways and system. Choose well, the quality of your existence depends upon your choice.

“You can either be a prophet who stands on the outside of culture and argues against the injustices or you can be the king; and I don’t think you can be both.” – Rev. Ed Dobson, Moral Majority Executive 1979-1987 from PBS program “God in America”
