The Scripture passages are identified with bold upright font and the author’s notes are identified with italic regular font.
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. 7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. 8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. 9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
Guarded Paths
Again, in these verses, we see the father urge the son (v.1-4), as God urges us, to obtain and use wisdom in all his dealing so that life might go well with him. In so doing the son, and we, find a “fear of the Lord” and “knowledge of God” that stabilizes our life. The “fear” is both a moral reverential fear and an authoritative fear of oversight and correct (v.5). The “knowledge” is an awareness that comes with observation of how God interacts with His people, deals with His people, knowing God’s character, and His principles (v.5). Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding all come from the Lord (v.6).
Those individuals who choose to walk the narrow path (Matt. 7:14) that Jesus spoke about, those who desire to be empowered by Jesus to walk in righteousness find the wisdom of the Lord to be their guide and to provide a Guard around their life (v.7). Verse seven states that the Lord is a “buckler” for those individuals who choose to walk uprightly. To be a “buckler” is to be an “armed defense,” to be a source of “protection,” to be a “protector” and a “shield.” However, interestingly enough it also means to be a “ruler” over the one who is being protected.
When God is allowed to be Ruler of our life we are able to walk “uprightly” because we walk in the power and strength of Christ because of our choice to obey His directives. Once we choose to obey Christ, the power of Christ is able to work through us. Thus, as Paul said and meant in context, ‘it is not I but Christ in (through) me.’
Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
What it means to walk “uprightly” (v.7) can be deduced from the meaning of the word “uprightly” as found in the Hebrew language.
“uprightly” in the Hebrew language =
8537. תֹּם tôm, tome; from 8552 (be clean); completeness; figuratively prosperity; usually (moral) innocence:— full, integrity, perfect (-ion), simplicity, upright (-ly, -ness), at a venture.
Thus, we can determine uprightness (v.7) means to clean our lives from habitual sin, to understand our completeness in Christ, to live a blessed life that prospers in all manners that are intangible and perhaps some tangible ones as well, to be innocent in our dealing, live and act with integrity, to be mature (perfect) in Christ, to live with simplicity (the good type of simplicity), to act with uprightness in our dealing, and to enjoy a full life as found in Christ’s Purpose for us.
God grants us the ability make the correct judgements in life (v.8), thus resulting in wise decisions when we choose to walk uprightly with Him. He also, states He will “preserveth the way of his saints” that choose to walk uprightly and use wisdom (v.8). Therefore, let us examine what it means to have our way preserved.
“and preserveth” in the Hebrew language =
8104. שָׁמַר shâmar, shaw-mar’; a prim. root; prop. to hedge about (as with thorns), i.e. guard; generally to protect, attend to, etc.
“the way” in the Hebrew language =
1870. דֶּרֶךְ derek, deh’-rek; from 1869; a road (as trodden); figuratively a course of life or mode of action, often adv.:— along, away, because of, + by, conversation, custom, [east-] ward, journey, manner, passenger, through, toward, [high-] [path-] way [-side], whither [-soever].
God will place a guard around us, a hedge of protection that will keep what is not His Will from us. That hedge is made of thorns that prick the forces that come at us that are not a part of God’s plan for us. God will attend to what concerns us, to what touches our life, and protect us from what will not serve His Plan and Purpose for us. Therefore, if it touches the life of the upright, it does so because God has a Plan and Purpose for it doing so.
When I referred to “our life” in the previous paragraph and based upon the Hebrew definition of “the way” our life is inclusive of the road God has chosen for us to travel. Our course through this life and our method of action in each situation. God is there for the upright to preserve and protect their conversations, their practices, their manner of living, and to preserve and protect them wherever they go. What a blessed assurance for those who choose to follow wisdom, who choose to obey Christ, who choose to walk uprightly with their God. They find the beauty in life that can only be found in living in harmony with God (v.7-9).

24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; 25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; 27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. 28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: 29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: 30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. 31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. 32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. 33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
Fruit of Rejecting Wisdom
Let us look at what the verses above have to say about the fruit of rejecting wisdom when it calls out to us. When we do not regard wisdom, it means we refuse to accept and apply wisdom. In this state the person has “avoided” and “dismissed” the counsel of wisdom. The individual has refused to listen to reproof and correction.
When wisdom is rejected “calamity” is sure to come as verse twenty-six states. Calamity will be followed by fear, not just any fear but according to the Hebrew language a fear that grows toward terror.
“calamity” in the Hebrew language means:
343. אֵיד ˒êyd, ade; from the same as 181 (in the sense of bending down); oppression; by impl. misfortune, ruin:— calamity, destruction.
I know of no person who enjoys oppression, misfortune, and destruction. Nevertheless, if we choose to ignore wisdom we can expect each to follow in growing degrees.
Once the fruit of rejecting wisdom begins to pile up, distress and anguish will wash over the person driving them back toward a desire to seek wisdom. However, at that point wisdom will not come to them as easily (verses 27-28).
We MUST choose to follow the Lord’s Ways, the Lord’s Wisdom and Will early on, not just after trouble has come upon our life (verse 29). We need to embrace the Lord’s correction and counsel not reject it (verse 30) for in doing so we find life and wholeness, not death and brokenness.
We must not blame the Lord for our destruction, ruin, hardships, etc. when we refuse to follow wisdom, for it is not a personal punishment from God but instead a consequence of one’s own choice not to follow wisdom (verses 30-31). If we seek our own “devices,” our own “counsel,” and “purpose” as the Hebrew language defines it, then the very best fruit we can hope for in life is our own fruit, which is substandard in all ways to the fruit of The Holy Spirit, the fruit of Wisdom.

20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: 21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, 22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? 23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Fruit of Accepting Wisdom
Have you ever thought about what it means for wisdom to cry out for you? Deep within is that still small voice that beckons us to listen to what is right, what is godly, what is God’s Wills – for wisdom. Wisdom is something that is almost tangible, inside we can almost touch it, feel it, and if we allow it to, wisdom touches our life in a very profound way. Wisdom and the application of wisdom to our daily life is a powerful tool God uses to transform our lives. Wisdom cries out from every area of life as verses twenty and twenty-one explains begging us to listen and respond.
Verse twenty-one reveals to us that wisdom will especially cry out during those times when we are going through distress. Distress either caused by circumstances, other people or ourselves. I have provided definitions in connection with the phrase “chief place of concourse” to better help you understand one of the times in our life when wisdom will attempt to cry out to us.
“concourse” in the Hebrew language =
1993. הָמָה hâmâh, haw-maw’; a prim. root [comp. 1949]; to make a loud sound (like the English “hum”); by impl. to be in great commotion or tumult, to rage, war, moan, clamor:— clamorous, concourse, cry aloud, be disquieted, loud, mourn, be moved, make a noise, rage, roar, sound, be troubled, make in tumult, tumultuous, be in an uproar.
1949. הוּם hûwm, hoom; a prim. root [comp. 2000]; to make an uproar, or agitate greatly:— destroy, move, make a noise, put, ring again.
When the doors open where wisdom can be applied, wisdom attempts to speak to us. Wisdom is always there and always available to us, and for us, if we chose to seek and apply wisdom.
James 1:5 (NKJV)
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Verse twenty-two makes it clear the type of people who refuse to listen to wisdom when Wisdom calls. Only the fool, disdainer, and negatively naïve individuals reject the knowledge of wisdom.
In order to obtain the fruit of wisdom we must accept wisdom. Wisdom can come in the form of “reproof” that will prompt us to change our decision[s] or action[s]. Learn to recognize and embrace reproof when it comes, your life will be the better for having done so.
“reproof” in the Hebrew language =
8433. תּוֹכֵחָה tôwkêchâh, to-kay-khaw’; and
תּוֹכַחַת tôwkachath, to-kakh’-ath; from 3198; chastisement; fig. (by words) correction, refutation, proof (even in defence):— argument, × chastened, correction, reasoning, rebuke, reproof, × be (often) reproved.
James 1:5 and Proverbs 1:23 both assure us that God’s Wisdom, God’s Truth is available to us if we are willing to listen. We do not lack wisdom because God has refused us, instead we lack wisdom because we have refused to listen to God, listen to reproof, listen to Truth, listen to godly wisdom.
The result of being willing to listen to wisdom when it calls out to us is that godly wisdom will be provided for us and the spirit of wisdom will overflow us. In the Hebrew language this ‘pouring out of the spirit of wisdom’ is inclusive of wisdom being poured out “abundantly” over us. The words we need will flow from us. The knowledge we need will be provided for us. The insight we need will be forthcoming in any situation.
The ultimate fruit of embracing and using wisdom is that by doing so we will dwell in the safety of the Lord, we will be able to live free from the fear of evil. As the Hebrew language depicts living a life in “a place of refuge” having both the “fact of security” and the “feeling of trust” found in the Lord Jesus. We can live life “boldly” living a life of “assurance” a life “without carelessness” and filled with “confidence” and “hope” that only God and life lived in wisdom can provide. Yes, with wisdom we can live a life free from the fear of evil. Please note verse thirty-three, nor I, stated we would be free from evil but instead free from the fear of evil. Evil may touch our lives but we need not fear evil, for anything God allows to touch our lives has passed through His Ultimate Wisdom and therefore, has a purpose for us to our ultimate good.

The Scripture passages are identified with bold upright font and the author’s notes are identified with italic regular font.
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. 11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: 12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: 13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: 14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: 16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. 17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. 18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. 19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
The Criminal Element
There is little doubt that the sinner, the evil, the criminal seeks to lure as many people into their snare as is possible. As they fall they desire that other individuals might fall with them, for the destruction of their own life is rarely enough they seek the destruction of most of those people around them, especially those they envy. The wise individual ignores and even flees from those individuals with a criminal leaning.
The criminal’s mind is set on hurting other people. The innocent are their prey. Hurting them or killing them makes little difference to these evil individuals if it means that they can obtain some form of gain from doing so.
The criminal has no problem stealing from other people to fatten their own purse. However, they expect their fellow criminals to trust them. How ironic that a person would believe that an individual will not steal from them what they have stolen from another person. Honor among thieves is a Hollywood myth not a reality of life. Again, the wise person does all he or she can to flee from such individuals as quickly as humanly possible.
Verse 17 makes it clear that the criminal element’s ultimate fate is to be caught. They shall not prevail endlessly in their pursuit of evil without being caught, unless they repent and change their ways early on in their criminal life.
Verse 18 makes it clear that self-preservation is the criminal’s primary concern. They are going to take care of number-one, #1, primarily. Therefore, that means those that run with them will be sacrificed if that is what is required to protect themselves.
Verse 19 shows us clearly both the motivation and end of a habitual criminal. They are motivated by their own greed, their lust for money, for more, for things that they do not have – a side-effect of a lack of contentment. Untimely it is made clear that the unrepentant criminal’s life shall end, most likely taken away from them by another criminal. There is no good end to a life of criminal behavior.
I know many of you will question, but what about how they got that way? What about helping them?
Yes, we absolutely need to help those individuals who desire to leave the criminal lifestyle, those who truly wish to repent. However, let us not confuse those who desire to repent with those whom we desire to repent. We do not need to invest much time or become too close to those individuals who we might want to repent even-though they have no desire whatsoever to repent. For those individuals, the best thing we could do is keep our distance, pray for them, and be ready when they come to a place where they have had a true change of heart, are ready to repent, and change their behavior and actions.
Hurting people do hurt people, this is true. Many, if not most criminals have very abusive backgrounds and backgrounds filled with neglect. I am a firm believer that evil brings about psychological damage and that psychological damage brings about evil. I believe that people kill who are mentally and emotionally very damaged people. People who have been battered and abused mentally, emotionally, physically, sexually, and spiritually rarely have the ability to think clearly and see the world or their circumstances correctly.
There is no harm whatsoever in attempting to provide a criminal with the knowledge of why they might behave as they do. However, it should be done in a detached and professional manner, yet, with love. One must guard him or herself from becoming hurt or damaged themselves, which can happen if a person becomes overly invested in an individual of a criminal element and then that criminal, that they have poured their heart into helping, hurts them.
If you are going to attempt to provide someone with criminal tendencies information about why they might be as they are and how they can heal, overcoming their evil inclination you must be a person of great wisdom and strong personal godly character. Otherwise, leave it to someone else to do and protect your own walk with Jesus.

4 To give subtilty (prudence) to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
Being simple in this verse means something totally different than most people would imagine. In this verse, the meaning in the Hebrew language of being a “simple” person is to be a person who makes room in their life, and even invites, both mental and moral silliness and foolishness, which leads to silly and foolish behavior. Believe me there is no joy, fulfillment, or productivity in being a simple person. Simple people waste their lives. Do not be a simple person. Choose to be a person who is wise and lives by disciplined choices.
Wisdom is needed for an individual to have the ability to govern their lives properly. One must obtain knowledge regarding wisdom and biblical principles to come to the place where they are equipped to live with prudence aka subtilty and discretion, two quality our society is in desperate need of currently. If you want to stand out among your peers have prudence and discretion.
Let us examine what prudence and discretion are as defined by the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary.
Prudence =
Main Entry:
pruydence
Pronunciation:
‚prü-d„n(t)s
Function:
noun
Etymology:
Middle English, from Anglo-French, from Latin prudentia, alteration of providentia — more at PROVIDENCE
Date:
14th century
1 : the ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason
2 : sagacity (aka wisdom) or shrewdness in the management of affairs
3 : skill and good judgment in the use of resources
4 : caution or circumspection as to danger or risk
Application of definitions.
1 – One must stop and think before they act. Does what they are going to do line up with their principles, moral code, God’s desires for them, etc.? Have they thought about the pros and cons of the situation? Has the outcome of the situation been considered?
2 – Does what the person wants to do line up with godly wisdom?
3 – Is this the best use of the person’s times, money, talents, gifts, etc.?
4 – What will happen if this choice is made? What will the potential outcome be? What are the risk involved and are the risk worth the reward?
Discretion =
Main Entry:
disycreytion
Pronunciation:
dis-‚kre-sh„n
Function:
noun
Date:
14th century
1 : the quality of being discreet : CIRCUMSPECTION; especially : cautious reserve in speech
2 : ability to make responsible decisions
Application of definitions.
1 – What is the impact of what the individual is about to say or do on both other people and themselves?
2 – Does the person’s behavior line up with responsible behavior?
You obviously want to find favorable answers to all of those questions when making a decision or choice that can affect your life, and almost every choice affects our life to some degree. Making life’s choices with prudence and discretion through the application of wisdom will radically transform a person’s life into success beyond measure – the abundant life Jesus spoke of in John 10:10.
John 10:10 (KJV-AV)” The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Do not allow the Enemy to steal your life through unwise choices.

The Scripture passages are identified with bold upright font and the author’s notes are identified with italic regular font.
Proverbs CHAPTER 1
1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; 2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; 3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
The King is expressing the huge benefit to be found in properly discerning and receiving correct learning in wisdom, life instruction, and learning to properly perceive life from a godly understanding.
Christians need a biblical worldview not a secular worldview. The only way to obtain a biblical worldview is to know what the Bible teaches and how to apply the Bible’s wisdom and principles.
It is pointed out that one must learn what wisdom, justice, judgement, and equity are and how to properly apply them.
“justice” in the Hebrew language means the following:
6664. צֶדֶק tsedeq, tseh’-dek; from 6663; the right (nat., mor. or legal); also (abstr.) equity or (fig.) prosperity:— × even, (× that which is altogether) just (-ice), ([un-]) right (-eous) (cause, -ly, -ness)
Therefore, to do “justice” in the eyes of God is to do what is right naturally, morally, and legally (the exception legally being if following the law causes us to sin against one of God’s principles found in His Word). It is to be fair and equitable in your dealing with people. To desire and promote the prosperity of all individuals in every situation. Keep in mind that prosperity does not solely apply to financial matter, we can prosper in our relationships, our health, our fruitfulness for God, etc. We are to seek “that which is altogether just, right, and righteous, to do so is to live justly and to do justice in each situation.

Please note:
There are six points to be explored when it comes to making godly decision. In each posting we will explore two points for a total of three posting on the matter of guidelines for making godly decisions. Each part in this series will begin with the following question and answer followed by a review of two new guidelines you can use to examine how you are making your decisions.
Here is a question someone once asked me that will to bring us to the topic of this study.
Question:
When you want something or want to do something really bad, something that on the surface is not bad, and you have different emotions about it, how do you discern between what God is telling you to do, and what the devil is trying to get you to do?
Answer:
Without a specific example of the “something” referred to in the question this can be a hard question to answer. The reason it can be difficult to answer is that we use so many factors to discern if the prompting and leading we are sensing is truly from God, Satan trying to trick us, or even just our own desire. There are some things to keep in mind however, when trying to discern which it might be.
We will have peace about whatever it is that we feel led to do. God will not lead us into something we do not have peace over. We may feel a bit scared, inadequate, or intimidated but we will not be at spiritual unrest over the matter. If we have spiritual unrest, we should question whether God is the source of the prompting.
John 14:27 NKJV
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (Jesus speaking)
Psalm 107:20 (AV)
He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
If confusion is present that is a sign God is not influencing that part of the decision.
1 Corinthians 14:33 NKJV
For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

Life is a challenging sea to navigate at times. Life is wonderful and exciting filled with many blessings and joys but it is also tough and difficult at times filled with many trials and sorrows. Without some frame of reference for how you will conduct your life, your life will to take over and control you instead of you controlling your life. When I write of you controlling your life, I am meaning “controlling” in a positive godly way.
The correct way to navigate life is with the wisdom, guidance, and direction of God for He is the only one who knows everything your life will entail. Much of His direction for life is found within His Word, the Bible. Within the Bible He has proved us with a treasure-trove of wisdom for how to live and conduct ourselves on a daily basis. The Book of Proverbs is a condensed book of that wisdom and focuses solely on imparting wisdom to mankind.
The human vessel through which God chose to release this wisdom was King Solomon. The wises man to ever live. He displayed his wisdom even before God imparted great wisdom to him, when he had the opportunity to receive from God anything he desired, money, fame, wealth, women, anything, and Solomon chose instead to ask God for wisdom. God rewarded the young man’s honorable and wise request by giving him great wisdom and all the rest as well – money, fame, wealth, women, etcetera (1 Kings 3:1-15).
Wisdom, godly wisdom, makes the obtaining of all the rest a real possibility. A life lived under the guidance of godly wisdom will succeed and bear fruit, whereas a life lived apart from wisdom will surely end in failure and destruction. With each day, each moment, each decision we must choose which type of life we are going to live.
Whether you are someone of many years who needs to obtain wisdom for the balance of your years, in order to be fruitful, or to be reminded of the wisdom that has blessed your life thus far or you are a young person just starting out in life without any real understanding of what it means to live life with godly understanding and wisdom, this study is for both age groups. It is also for all those individuals, like myself, who are in-between the two age groups, who are attempting to live their life under the godly counsel, with godly understanding, and by walking in the wisdom of God, yet, we need to be reminded continually of what that wisdom is and the diverse ways in which we can apply God’s wisdom to our daily circumstance. Wisdom is fruitful for all people, at all stages of life, under all circumstances.
I invite, encourage, and exhort you to jump into the sea of wisdom with both feet and trust that just as Jesus was there for Peter to stabilize his steps and keep him from sinking (Matt. 14:25-33), God will use His wisdom as one of the tools in your life to stabilize your steps and keep your life from sinking.
In the next posting, before we actually begin to examine the Scriptural text of Proverbs, we will take a look at how to make godly decision. Some simple and practical guidelines for how to approach decision making God’s way will be explained.

This piece, will be the last in our review of David Kupelian’s book, How Evil Works. Please find a link below where you can purchase the book from Amazon, should you desire to do so. This book and review of it has been such a blessing to my readers and myself, we are so grateful that God led David Kupelian to write the book.
To effectively combat an enemy, one must understand both their enemy and themselves. Seek to gain godly wisdom and understanding. Act and respond in accordance with that godly understanding and godly wisdom. How one responds to the evil and hated that is unleashed in our society and world is a key element in how well they are able to resist both and be a godly spiritual activist for Truth.
Control of oneself and one’s own actions is essential to being powerfully effective. As the author points out, ‘there is a world of difference between righteous indignation and seething hatred.’ As Christians, we want to possess righteous indignation but we do not want to enter into that realm with our Enemy, and enemies, who reside in seething hatred. The author also points out that righteous indignation is based on a strong sense of justice. However, seething hatred is always found to be self-destructive, out-of-control rage. We must rise above the temptation to hate those who hate us so we can embrace a truly righteous passion to right the wrongs we see strangling God from the consciousness of our country.
There is a universal human imperfection that we all suffer from. However, we cannot allow our own imperfects to render us mute when it comes to what God wants from us as a people. I have said more times than I can count, ‘Just because we do not live up to God’s Standard does not mean His Standard changes or that we have a right to try and pull God’s Standard down to our level so we can feel better about ourselves.’
There is a moral compass, the needle of which is our conscience, and every individual is born with one. We must employ methods to jump-start people’s conscience whenever possible. There was a saying that went around years ago within the Body of Christ, ‘Stop trying to be the Holy Spirit for people.’ This was a most destructive statement for the spiritual well-being of the Body of Christ. Why? Well my brothers and sisters the Book of Hebrews was written to address the issue of apostasy, and command Christians to cling close to Christ and God’s principles. Our part in seeing that takes place is exhorting one another toward living out God’s principles. You cannot very well do that if you see sin and never say anything about it to anyone, you never call sin sin and call for repentance from sin and a return to God. A novelist George Orwell has been often quoted as saying, “In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”
Hebrews 3:12-15
12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; 13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
We must be willing to act when necessary as well, not just talk. There are those individuals who are so disconnected from their conscience that Truth does not compel them to do the right things. That is when the application of proper pressure done in godly way becomes necessary. Even after that there will be some individuals who will still remained unmoved.
To quote the author, Kupelian, in the last sentence of this book, “Truth is enough – because when properly honed and targeted, it is more than sufficient to annihilate all of their grand seductions.”
When Jesus was answering Pilate, He stated the following.
John 18:37 (NKJV)
Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?”
Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
Are we supposed to do something different from what Jesus stated here He came to do, “bear witness to the truth” – yes or no? No, I do not believe so, nor does the author of this book. We are God’s people and as God’s people we should stand for Truth forever!

Evil is sold in our society just as anything else might be sold, through marketing. Satan has marketed his product through those willing and those ignorant to his schemes. Through his craftiness he has turned the minds of even Believers to think that tolerance of his evil is some form of love. In so doing he has transformed to a large degree the once Devout Church and transformed our society to an enormous degree. He has not accomplished this without his workers however, the willing, the sold out for their own gain, and the ignorant masses following blindly behind the majority.

In this piece, we continue to move throughout the closing chapter of David Kupelian’s book, How Evil Works. Please find a link below where you can purchase the book from Amazon, should you desire to do so. The chapter addresses how Christians can, and should, act to turn the tables on evil, particularly here in America.
People underestimate how television is used in our society to shape how people think and what they become. Television has become a means by which to punish those who do not adhere to what society views as political correctness. ABC recently cancelled Tim Allen’s show Last Man Standing because the views expressed on that show did not line up with a vanilla politically correct society. ABC claimed scheduling issues but it is so obviously politics, not scheduling, that motivated their decision. Just one more reason to ditch the major networks of television.
The author notes from The Hidden Persuaders a truth exposed now half a century ago and which remains true to this date. That too many people, including Christians, meander through life in what can only be described as a mental-emotional fog, allowing their subconscious and its sensitivities to words and images to cause them to feel, act, purchase, and vote in conformity with, as Bernays (the father of public relations) puts it, “they who pull the wires which control the public mind.” Christians wake up; spiritual, mental, and emotional alertness is a must if you do not want to be either controlled, manipulated, deceived, or led into sin being led astray from God’s principles.
There is no doubt that as Kupelian states, the elite media and the regular citizen’s mindset is different from one another. The elite media regards traditional American values as both corny and stupid, while at the same time regarding immorality and perversity as sophisticated. Sophisticated? What a joke! However, this elite media does use its outlet to warp the minds of people leading them away from modesty and common decency, toward reveling in depraved behavior, which leads to them being cynical and even hostile toward people and values that are genuinely virtuous.
Why do “big media” and jaded people attack these people who choose to live in accordance with genuine virtuous standards? These people remind them of their lost innocence and this reminder is painful and unwelcome. Therefore, they feel compelled to attack the “reminder” of what they have lost.
Do not allow the “mainstream media” to tear you down. As the famous rabbinic saying goes, “Those who are kind to the cruel will end up being cruel to the kind.” They will change you, if you allow them to do so. Do not allow our society to intimidate you into being something that goes against God, His principles, His standards, and that goes against your own heart, mind, and spirit.
Remember goading you is meant to upset you, and once upset the mental and emotional processes in the brain are altered and therefore the process of altering your mindset has begun. Refer to earlier postings regarding how brainwashing and evil reprogramming takes place. When you are intimidated and upset, when you emotionally overact, you lose the battle.
In the next posting, we will conclude our review of the last chapter of David Kupelian’s book, How Evil Works.

Beware to the modern-day pastor who wishes to lower the Standard of God, the standard on being a Christian, so it will be tempting to those people who want heaven but they don’t want God’s government.

In this posting we will finish reviewing chapter nine of David Kupelian’s book, How Evil Works. The latter part of this chapter connects impatience to anger and hate.
Kupelian explains that impatience is about “literally our making what we want (to go faster) more important than what is right (God’s commandment that we be patient with our neighbor’s shortcomings). In so doing we are making our will more important that God’s Will. We are playing God. We may try to justify being impatient but impatience is selfishness, immaturity, and a lack of love on display in our reactions to life. Anger also makes us feel strong because it feels like strength but it is not strength, it is actually a terrible weakness. Excessive impatience and anger show just how weak a person you truly are.
Anger is one of the greatest self-destructive emotions of all the human behaviors. Anger destroys social, business, and romantic relationships. No one should have to or should allow themselves to endure the abuse that comes from someone who cannot control their temper.
An important side note: There is a difference between displaying anger and being angry. There is a time to display anger. An impression of being really upset, even angry, might be called for in certain situations. However, being angry means you are out of control. Anger over true injustices within the world and society is not the type of anger we are dealing with here. Righteous indignation, like Jesus had in the temple courtyard (Matthew 21:12-17, Mark 11:15–17, Luke 19:45-46), does not harm or destroy it seeks to correct injustice and drive out sin through nondestructive means. True righteous indignation leads to a desire to change something not to resentment.
There is a time and there are people who are called to stand up against and courageously oppose evil oppressors. This is the mark of a true martyr. However, a true martyr does not kill for their cause. A true martyr does not kill people because they disagree with their religious beliefs. A true martyr does not kill people because they believe said people are less than human. A true martyr does not kill an abortion doctor because the doctor performs abortions. A true martyr would rather die for their cause and beliefs at the hands of another person rather than kill another human being. Courageously standing up against evil oppressors does not mean killing.
What causes anger? Impatience. What causes impatience? Arrogance. A person who cannot control their temper, who rains on those around him or her angry yells and insults is a very arrogant person. Anger is a clear sign of an inflated sense of self-importance. Someone who is truly humble is a person who is almost impossible to anger.
Real patience is agape love, real love. To release hostility can feel like a loss, like we are letting go of something that we need, that protect us, something important and necessary for our safety. This pride that has convinced us of such lies, and indulging in it, will only nourish everything that is wrong inside of us. That anger appears to our pride to be righteous when it almost never is, it might even seem noble in our minds. Anger problems in people are everywhere because “anger is the necessary food for pride, and pride is at the very core of most of our problems in this life.” May God grant us humble hearts and gave us the destruction of pride.
Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV)
Pride goes before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before a fall.
People are wronged. People are hurt. People are damaged by other people. The people who truly recover from traumas are those people who can find the path to forgiveness and forgive those who have hurt them. Psychology, religion, common sense, and experience agree that forgiveness is the way to find true healing. Those people who can forgive are able to move on with their life. Those individuals who cannot forgive stay bogged down in their mire of the trauma until they learn to let it go. Failure to forgive keeps the wound inside of us open and bleeding.
Resentment is our measuring stick to how patient, loving, and forgiving we are. Resentment is evidence of our failure to forgive, our failure to love, and our failure to be patient with the imperfections of other people. To forgive is to give up our resentment.
Un-forgiveness is a form of hate. Hate will eat us up inside. To justify our un-forgiveness or hate will not save us the ravishes of their sin. Hate is never okay.
In the next posting, we will begin to review chapter ten of David Kupelian’s book, How Evil Works. In chapter ten we will examine the difficult question that so many people ask. Where is God while evil is running ramped in the world?

Evil is sold in our society just as anything else might be sold, through marketing. Satan has marketed his product through those willing and those ignorant to his schemes. Through his craftiness he has turned the minds of even Believers to think that tolerance of his evil is some form of love. In so doing he has transformed to a large degree the once Devout Church and transformed our society to an enormous degree. He has not accomplished this without his workers however, the willing, the sold out for their own gain, and the ignorant masses following blindly behind the majority.

In this posting we will continue reviewing chapter nine of David Kupelian’s book, How Evil Works. The second half of this chapter continues to deal with this issue of hate.
Guns are blamed for many killings but guns do not kill, the people with the guns kill. The instrument itself that is used to hurt another is not evil in and of itself, the individual using the instrument is what is driven by evil. As the author points out the evil is within us not in the guns. However, it makes us uncomfortable to fact that fact so we blame the guns.
Guns, knives, instruments of hate provoke in us horrible thoughts. The very sight of a weapon makes many people sense the presence of evil. The author contends that the presence of a gun in a person’s close proximity can cause that person’s “own buried, angry, violent tendencies to surface” at least for a moment. This reality, according to the author, can create a dislike or discomfort around guns for many people. However, he exerts that their uneasiness is because of their own fears about what they would do with such an object. People carry much buried and unrecognized rage inside. A concept too difficult for many people to face thus they blame, dislike, and cast their negative emotions or feeling on the guns.
Evil is continually watching each of us, looking for that open door, an opportunity to tempt or destroy us. Evil moves upon our mind to provide us with a mental shove in his direction – Satan’s direction, the father of evil. People can give into this evil if the shove is hard enough. People are especially susceptible if they have spent most of their life living in anger, doubt, and despair. We are all born in sin thus we are all somewhat subject to some measure of a dark force. Those of us who face what is wrong inside of us and call upon God for help, find help in Christ. While other people live in denial until evil brings about a tragedy and death.
What to do?
1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Call upon Christ to save us from the evil within, to cleans us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 (NKJV)
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Anger has great power. When we become angry and resentful we literally are stepping into an alternate dimension, according to the author. We begin to think and feel differently. Anger causes the mind to work in another way. Another form of logic begins to take over, an evil distorted logic. The anger cuts us off from God, the usual calm self with the sensible mind become overshadowed by the evil the anger brings into your spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical sphere. You become a conduit for something else, for the work of the Evil One. Most assuredly Satan does not have your best interest in mind. One moment of anger can leave you with a lifetime of regret and consequences once that anger is acted upon. Evil, anger, is just a question of degree for each person.
Even many “normal” people are filled with hostility. Hostility that is only shown to their family members perhaps but it is there, per the author’s beliefs. This emotional turmoil often leads to breakdowns within families and divorce. The husband blames the wife and the wife blames the husband. People smoke, drink, or take legal or illegal drugs to ease this ever-building anger inside. Illness is also often a result of unresolved anger. This has been affirmed by a major study noted in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

In this piece we will begin to explore chapter nine of David Kupelian’s book, How Evil Works. Please find a link below where you can purchase the book from Amazon, should you desire to do so. Here are some of the highlights as found within this chapter regarding the evil power of hate.
In this chapter there is the belief that people do not start out evil but instead an innocent child is born and can “morph into an instrument of great evil.” I concur. In an interview I once did for a book on a serial killer I made the following statements. ‘Psychological damage can open the door to evil.’ “When people have been severely damaged by other people that damage leaves them susceptible and open to the influence of evil.” The author of the book mixed up the words “psychological” and “theological” in one of my statements. My statement should have read as follows, that I learned at an early age in life “the theological basis of evil, and the psychological basis for damaged children growing up to damage other people.” Kupelian points out that in his view hate fills a person and drives them to violate others only when someone else first violates them – a parent, sibling, teacher, cleric, or some other authority figure sexually abuses, bullies, humiliates, degrades frightens, intimidates, etc. the person first. Again, first a wound, then a wounded person, and finally someone who wounds others.
The author, Kupelian, believes that under hate one can find a fireball of suppressed rage. Once intense hatred has being given license in a person’s life it can morph into what the author calls “full-blown epic madness.” We see this in jihadist individuals who bring about terrorism. Authority figures have little problem directing that hate, rage, and madness toward a specific group – Christians, Jews, Americans, infidels, etc. – especially when a person is young.
How does hate programming take place? It is really not that difficult. Why? Because as the author says, “We effortlessly internalize the cruelty of others.” Many people are well aware of the obvious effects that being angry and upset have on a person such as making us emotional and clouding our judgment. What many people do not realize however is that being angry “throws us into “program mode”.” Getting upset allows our minds and hearts to be infected with hate. Hitler always kept his audiences super emotional. You simply cannot think clearly when you are too emotional. Brainwashing 101 keep the target you wish to brainwash upset as much as possible – then the brainwashers thoughts and feeling become the thoughts and feelings of the one being brainwashed. When you have someone upset you have “your hands on the control levers of their mind.”
The passing of hate from one generation to another is sadly common. You repeat what you learn, what you endure, unless some radical means of escape takes place. The person bullied will almost always bully other people. Prisons are full of molesters and abusers who were molested and abused, as the author points out. It is sadly true for many people that ‘expressing their hatred, feeling their hatred, and degrading others reinforce their sense of self-worth and their identity’ – as absurd and disturbing as it may sound. Hatred of any enemy, especially as a group in the case of a common enemy, brings about a perverse fulfillment to an individual or group, unifying a group of dysfunctional and hostile people, and in their twisted thinking enhancing their own self-image.
Anti-Semitic hates runs deep and has gone on for a long time. Israeli counterterrorism expert Itamar Marcus states in “The Genocide Mechanism” that in order to program hate toward a group the programmers must demonize the targets. This is done by making sure they individuals are perceived as a “clear and present threat” so the killers can believe they are acting in self-defense. Additionally, there is a need to “dehumanize” the targeted individuals so the killers would not view themselves as destroying real human beings.
There is little doubt that the Jewish people are among the most hated, tormented, and persecuted group of people who have every walked the earth. People hate favored people for no reason at all. God favored His people. Sadly, even some Christians have come to express hatred for God’s people, the Jewish people, and this should not be so. The Aryan Nations, white supremacist, condemn Jews as “the natural enemy of our Aryan Race.” The American Nazi Party desire an America that “is free of alien, Jewish influence.” The Al-Akhbar, the semiofficial Egyptian state-run daily newspaper, views ‘the Jews as accursed and always will be.’
Losers wish to be transformed into winners, even if it is in their own minds only, the author states. Therefore, their hate has a simply root. Instead of taking responsibility for their own problems, they blame others. Psychologist would call it scapegoating or projection. Who are those individuals that would engage in such behavior? People who do not wish to face reality, those who do not wish to admit their own failings, people who have no real desire to change in any meaningful way. Some people turn to drugs, alcohol, sex, music, entertainment, etc. to escape dealing with basic truths about themselves but as Kupelian points out “the most dangerous, certainly as addicting as any drug” that people use to hide from themselves is “scapegoating.” Turn it on someone else; make everything about them, their actions, never willing to truly take responsibility for your own.
As the author notes the dark side of human nature needs to project blame and guilt onto other people as a part of their core survival strategy. People who want to avoid taking responsibly for their own sins find a scapegoat. In our own lives don’t most of us to a greater or lesser degree tend to blame other for our problems?
Leviticus 16:8–10 (NKJV)
8 Then Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats: one lot for the LORD and the other lot for the scapegoat. 9 And Aaron shall bring the goat on which the LORD’s lot fell, and offer it as a sin offering. 10 But the goat on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make atonement upon it, and to let it go as the scapegoat into the wilderness.
“scapegoat” in the Hebrew language =
5799 עֲזָאזֵל [ʿazaʾzel /az·aw·zale/] n m. From 5795 and 235; TWOT 1593; GK 6439; Four occurrences; AV translates as “scapegoat” four times. 1 entire removal, scapegoat. 1A refers to the goat used for sacrifice for the sins of the people. 1B meaning dubious.
In the next posting we will finish reviewing chapter nine of David Kupelian’s book, How Evil Works of which the second half continues to deal with this issue of hate.
